What a glorious weekend. Autumn has arrived and the leaves are beginning to display their beautiful colours.
Students had a beautiful day to complete the Terry Fox Run/Walk this past Thursday. It was great to see student running and walking with their reading buddies in support of a great cause. Our school managed to surpass the goal of $2000.00 so thank you to families for their generous donations and to Mrs. Bacon for organizing this event. The Terry Fox foundation now has $2434 from our community to use towards cancer research.
On Friday, a school wide assembly was held to pay tribute to those children and families who were affected by residential schools. We prayed for the children who never returned home, for the survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
Our Leadership Student Team also introduced our new Umbrella Skill for the month of October – Gratitude. We have so much to be grateful for and showing connective gratitude (rather than just expressive gratitude) means offering something meaningful to another person as an expression of gratitude. This is a level up when it comes to being grateful and takes into account more fully the feelings and wishes of the other person. This also helps us to build empathy.
We would like to wish all our St. Augustine Families a very Happy Thanksgiving. Thankfulness is important when we are thinking about others. Being thankful for what we have helps us to recognize the work others do to serve us. Please keep our community in your thoughts and prayers this coming Thanksgiving weekend! Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, October 10th.
Our Grade 8s off to Mount Mary!
It is a long tradition that our Grade 8 take a religious retreat to Mount Mary. This experience offers a wide variety of community-building, fun, and faith-based opportunities for our students. This week, our ‘GREAT 8’s” will be participating in this retreat from Monday, October 3rd to Wednesday, October 5th. Enjoy your retreat and may God continue to guide and bless you always! Thank you to Mr. Hoffmann, Ms. Ingram, Ms. Lamanna, and Ms. Decan for their support of our students during this retreat.
Have a wonderful week!
