Rejoice, the season of Advent is upon us!

Jesus, the Light of the World

As we celebrate the Christmas Season, may your thoughts turn to the true meaning of Christmas: Love. God gave us the greatest gift possible; His son Jesus. Known as the Prince of Peace, Jesus is the promise of eternal life. Knowing we are loved by God beyond our comprehension and that one day we will experience complete eternal peace is a comfort that surrounds us with joy. In a modern world where it is hard not to be materially influenced, remember that Christmas is special not because of the presents shared with one another but rather it is special because of the time we spend with those we love. It is special because we have each other to love and we are loved by God. May the celebration of Jesus’ birth bring you and your family much joy and happiness.

The staff of St. Augustine CES would like to wish you a blessed Merry

Christmas filled with Love.

December finds our students busy preparing for the birth of Jesus. There are Advent Calendars to follow, Advent Wreaths to make, acts of kindness to bestow and people to take care of who are in need. Our St. Augustine school families are truly generous to the core when it comes to the welfare of others. Our Angel Christmas Tree collection raised $1845.00 to help buy gifts for families in need. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity. Know that your donation will put a smile on many children’s faces throughout our community.

Three upcoming events to mark on your calendar to attend this month are December 4th , a Family Community Mass will be held for St. Augustine and St. Gregory families at St. Gregory Church from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. December 12th, is the date of our annual Christmas Concert at 12:45 pm, and December 19th is our school wide Advent Christmas Mass at 12:45 pm in our gym.  Hope to see everyone out to share in the true meaning of Christmas.

A few reminders now that the cold winter weather is going to be upon us:

Children go outside everyday unless the wind chill and /or temperatures are –19 or lower. Please send your children with warm clothing for outdoor play everyday.

Extra dry clothes are always a good idea no matter how old your child is. A spare pair of mittens is also recommended.

School rules in this weather include no throwing snow or snowballs. It would be appreciated if you could remind your children that safe play outside is always top of mind and listening to supervisors outside is important.

Should we be hit with more severe snow/winter weather, please check the Waterloo Catholic District School Board website for information on school closures or bus cancellations. Notices of this nature will be on the home page, in large lettering. You can also listen to local radio stations like 570 News for listings of closures or bus cancellations. Decisions are usually made and posted by approx. 6 a.m. wherever/whenever possible. It is a good time to remind your child about what arrangements you have communicated to the school should there be a closure for any reason during the day. Information you provided on the emergency forms you completed at the beginning of the school year will be used in those cases.

A Christmas Prayer

Heavenly Father,

May our Christmas season be

A time of reconciliation and peace.

May the love of Christ be with us,

May His Peace surround us.

May our Christmas be a time

Of healing, giving and sharing,

May Your spirit be with us

As we share and care in Jesus’

blessed birth.
