Important information regarding the first day of School September 2017

June 27, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As another school year comes to an end, the staff at St. Augustine CES are beginning to prepare for the fall of 2017. In the past, students and parents have gathered in the gym on the first day of school.

On Tuesday, September 5th, we will be implementing a new plan to inform students of their new class placement. We believe the benefits will be as follows:

Reduce anxiety for many students

Reduce the crowd in a very concentrated area

Reduce congestion concentrated by the gym door

Reduce the time allocated to inform students of class placement

Families are welcome to gather with their children on the blacktop at the back of the school beginning at 8:30 am to mingle with each other, say hello to old friends, and share stories of the summer past. At 8:45 am, when the bell rings, teachers will all be holding large signs with grade numbers on them. Students are asked to say goodbye to their parents, identify which grade/sign is appropriate for them, and then head to that area.

Once students arrive in the grade designated areas, teachers will begin reading out names and taking students to their new classrooms. Parents are respectfully asked to say good-bye to your child while on the yard before students enter the school. Classroom teachers will begin first day procedures and instruction, as soon as we enter the school building.

In the event of rain, students in the following grades will enter through the following doors to find out their class placement:

Primary Doors – Grades 1 and 2

Front Doors – Grades 3 and 4

Doors by the Portable – Grades 5 and 6

Doors by the side Parking Lot – Grade 7 and 8

In the afternoon, all students and staff will gather in the gym for an official welcoming and prayer to begin our new school year as the St. Augustine CES community. The staff looks forward to connecting with parents at our Meet the Teacher Pizza Night on Wednesday, September 20th. More details will follow in September.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding,

Terri-Lynn Geisel
