St. Augustine Catholic School Council Meeting

May 16, 2017

Present – Tracey Babineau, Lynn Brombal, Lisa Chippindale, Bill Conway, Evelina Turney, Sheri Mate, Brittany Kohler, Liz Monteiro, Terri-Lynn Geisel, Silvia Straus, Maria Serpa

Approval of April 2017 Minutes – approved


Principal Items – Terri-Lynn

Thank you to 25th Anniversary Celebration organizers:

Climber Repairs:

  • 2 minor repairs need to be completed – approximately $350 and possibly a minimal costing 3rd item needs to be addressed – this money will be taken out of the School Council budget as previously approved

St. Augustine CES School Website:

  • has been revamped
  • Monthly school newsletter will now be sent via newswire and automatically stored on our school website.
  • Are now accessible on cell phones
  • A google calendar will be found on the website to reflect whole school events
  • The Board is focusing on making our websites more viable and useful to our communities

Electing the New Chair will take place in the fall:

Fundraiser :

  • Terri-Lynn will confirm with Mark to see if he would like to assist with organizing the Dance-a-thon on Hallowe’en

Meet the Teacher Night:

  • Liz and Lynn will organize – will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2017

  • Tuesday, November 7, 2017
  • Tuesday, December 5, 2017 – Family Advent Mass at St. Gregory Church
  • Tuesday, January 9, 2018
  • Tuesday, February 6, 2018 – Reserve for PRO Grant Evening
  • Tuesday, April 3, 2018
  • Tuesday May 8, 2018 (second Tuesday due to Catholic Education Week – Folk Dance)
  • Tuesday, June 5, 2018 – Catholic School Council Social – Location to be determined

Financial Reports – Terri-Lynn and Maria

Lottery Account:

– $11,248.12 – buses for Track and Field and June Mass at St. Gregory Church will be taken out of this account

– Scooter rack will also be taken out of this account

– we are going to order another bike rack with money from this account

Yearbook Account:

– $3254.00 – no change to this account

– yearbook will cost $5650.00 – need to advertise again

– suggested selling them at Kindergarten Graduation


School Council General

– $983.75 – $500 Donation from Winter Hawks Fundraiser Night and Gardening Equipment has come out since last meeting

Playground Repairs Account

– $2000.00


25th Anniversary Account;

– $ 882.08 – Poster Printing charge of $137.92 was taken out of this account since last meeting


Bereavement Account:

– $170.00 – $20 for mass cards was taken out of this account for

– discussed solely doing mass cards and this was passed

– no longer doing donations


Cookbook Money Account:

– $1174.66


Reports from Committees:


  • 2 Bingo Volunteers are leaving
  • discussed possibly no longer doing the Bingos due to lack of volunteers and stringent rules for spending the money
  • discussed if no longer doing a Bingo then doing another small fundraiser (ie flowers for Mother’s Day) in addition to major fundraiser
  • Council agreed to no longer participate in the Bingo fundraiser
  • Tracey will inform Bingo that we will not commit for next year and how to properly spend the balance in the account

25th Anniversary Celebration:

– May 18, 2017 from 4 – 8 pm

– in need of more parent volunteers to ensure events are running smoothly

-Tracey is working on organizing student volunteers

PIC Grant (Parent Involvement Committee):

– Application deadline has been extended to June

– still gathering ideas for the application

– Mark W. will be submitting with Bill’s assistance

– ideas include Mental Health, Resiliency, Stranger Danger (Back to Basics), Living Library

-want to include the children to improve attendance at the event

New Business:

– Fr. John Redmond is being moved to a new parish

-Catholic School Council has decided to purchase a gift

– a print of Cambridge was decided

-Tracey will purchased – budget between $50 – $100

-Tuesday, June 6, 2017 will be the end of year Social

-it will be held at Cafe 13 – Main Street Grill –

-Tracey will send out email regarding reservations etc.
